There's not much time left for older phone models, as Australia's telcos pull the plug on 3G networks

There's not much time left for older phone models, as Australia's telcos pull the plug on 3G networks

The companies are making the move in a bid to boost the speed, capability and reliability of their 4G and 5G systems.

New Zealand Telecommunications Forum CEO Paul Brislen says all 3G reliant devices - including visiting Kiwis - won't be able to connect in Australia.

He says it's a global trend and our telcos will be making the same move by the end of next year.

Paul Brislen says they're aiming to make the 4G and 5G footprint as expansive as the 3G network.
