An Air New Zealand flight out of Auckland returned after seven hours in the air due to an onboard computer problem

Flight NZ284 to Singapore, was scheduled to leave Auckland shortly after 10 yesterday morning, but didn't take off until shortly after 1pm.

It then flew to Sydney before turning around mid-air - heading back and landing in New Zealand shortly before 8pm.

Air New Zealand chief operational integrity and safety officer Captain David Morgan says pilots identified an issue that required maintenance.
