South Island ski fields are looking forward to a busy school holidays

Tourism operators have been looking to the next two weeks to provide them with a boost while the borders remain shut.

NZSki chief executive Paul Anderson says they've been encouraged in the lead in to the holidays with big numbers of locals already turning out at Coronet Peak and good snow conditions.

He says Queenstown hoteliers have told him they're running at about 60 to 85 per cent capacity - which is just awesome.
