An Auckland principal says students still prefer written exams

An Auckland principal says students still prefer written exams

NCEA and scholarship exams start today.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins says more than 50-thousand students from about 350 schools are sitting some exams online - up more than 25-thousand on last year.

69 online exams are available for NCEA levels one, two, three - and one scholarship subject.

Hipkins says schools and students are gaining confidence in shifting away from pens and paper.

But Macleans College Principal Steve Hargreaves says quite often students who signed up for a digital exam will opt to take the written exam on the day.

He says they've lots of practice with written exams - and might be concerned about something going wrong with the device or connectivity.
