An Otago high school is looking at the way it manages students access to phones while on excursions, after some were barred from calling their parents during an emergency situation

Two students and two staff members from Oamaru's St Kevins College went missing overnight while on a three-day school camp at Mount Somers last month.

They were found the following morning, by Search and Rescue.

The ODT reports student cellphones had been confiscated for camp, and they weren't allowed access to them to phone home.

The school says it's ordered a full review.
