The School Library Association wants school libraries to be mandated, with consistent standards and resources

It estimates two thirds of schools don't have working libraries.
Of around 2500 schools, there are only 56 full-time librarians - and 873 part-time.
Association president and library manager Claudine Crabtree says the most important part of libraries is encouraging reading for pleasure.
She says it also has a wellbeing function - providing a safe, warm and friendly space for students who may be struggling with things.
