Some Auckland schools are feeling the strain as they deal with rising student numbers

Some Auckland schools are feeling the strain as they deal with rising student numbers

Ministry of Education data shows the city's schools are growing faster than anywhere else in the country.

Private school enrolments have shot up 84-percent since 2000, with public schools up 30-percent.

New Zealand's school-aged population has only risen 18-percent over the same time.

Mount Albert Grammar's seen a 149-percent rise in pupils.

Headmaster Patrick Drumm expects they won't be able to accept any out-of-zone students in 2026 if this growth continues.
