Fire and Emergency are asking people to think about the risks of fireworks - as they go sale today

Fire and Emergency are asking people to think about the risks of fireworks - as they go sale today

The public sale of fireworks runs from today until Guy Fawkes on Tuesday.

During this time, mountains in Auckland will close from 6pm - including One Tree Hill and Mount Eden.

People setting them off are urged to be considerate of neighbours and pets.

FENZ Community Education Manager Tom Ronaldson says it's always a busy few days for fire crews.

He says since 2019, 676 fires have been caused by fireworks - 513 of which were vegetation fires.

    Ronaldson says they're all preventable.
