Pet owners are being urged to watch out for their pets during tonight's Guy Fawkes celebrations

Pet owners are being urged to watch out for their pets during tonight's Guy Fawkes celebrations

Christchurch City Council says it's usually the busiest time of the year for animal management crews, as they deal with animals spooked by fireworks.

Animal Services Manager Lionel Bridger says fireworks aren't as available as they were a few years ago.

However, they're still receiving calls about displaced pets.

He says it's best to keep pets inside, and to keep doors and windows closed to lessen any noise.
