A Timaru company, and its director, are the latest to be sentenced - and heavily fined - over a worker being killed by an unsafe conveyor belt

Ethyn McTier died aged 23 - entrapped in a belt at Point Lumber Limited, in 2022.

WorkSafe found there was no guarding to protect workers, and no risk assessment had been done.

It also found a range of other machine safety defects.

Sean Sloper and Point Lumber Limited have been fined 310-thousand dollars, and ordered to pay the man's family 140-thousand dollars reparations.
