Greyhounds as Pets is hosting its largest ever adoption today in Christchurch after a challenging few years.

Team Lead Emelia Lake says they've seen a steep decline in adoption numbers as well as an increase in returns - because owners can't afford them anymore.

She's hopeful numbers will improve this year.
