Concerns over size limits being smaller for commercial fishing compared to the public

Concerns over size limits being smaller for commercial fishing compared to the public

More than 4,000 fishing offences have been identified in the past year, with catching undersized fish among the most common breaches.

Commercial fishers are legally allowed to harvest 25 centimetre snapper and 65 centimetre kingfish.

But LegaSea programme lead Sam Woolford says fish that size are still juvenile and highly unlikely to have spawned.

Mr Woodford says the fact the regulations allow them to catch fish that small, is causing a detrimental downstream impact because they're not reproducing before being caught.
