    The EU's new deforestation regulation could be favourable to New Zealand - when it eventually kicks in


    The law targeting commodities like wood and cattle, was set to kick in today - but has now been delayed a second time, until next year.

    Trade Minister Todd McClay says he's aiming to win a better deal for our exporters.

    Wood Processors and Manufacturers' Association chief executive Mark Ross says there are opportunities - despite the high compliance costs.

    He says we've got sustainable forestry systems, we plant trees after harvesting, and we have the Forestry Chain of Custody to trace products - which could be an advantage.
