Emma Chamberlain had a "very complicated relationship with YouTube for a long time"

The 23-year-old star launched her YouTube channel back in 2016 and although she's developed a huge following through the video-sharing platform, Emma admits that it's still been a turbulent experience at times

Speaking to Vogue, Emma shared: "I had a very complicated relationship with YouTube for a long time, and it was how I started my career.

"Then for a long time, I thought maybe I want to be more than a YouTuber - and then that messed with my head."

Despite this, Emma ultimately came to the realisation that she's fulfilling her dreams through her YouTube channel.

Emma - who also has a successful podcast series - said: "I realised, wait, I love being a YouTuber. This was my dream as a kid. I did it. Why am I self-sabotaging?"

The influencer has been an ambassador for Louis Vuitton since 2019 and Cartier since 2022 - but Emma still loves making videos for her YouTube subscribers.

She said: "I'm loving making YouTube videos. I make them all myself. I edit them all myself. So I've been focusing on that."

Emma previously admitted that her success has come at a price.

The social media star revealed that she's endured some "pain" in recent years.

Speaking to The Face, Emma explained: "Not to get spiritual, but you never get anything [in life] for free. There's always a cost. With great success or fortune, there's always going to be an equal that is pain."

Emma is also conscious that her fame and success could easily disappear.

She shared: "I never get comfortable being in the moment when I'm liked, because that can go away tomorrow.

"On the other hand, people can love you again tomorrow."

Emma is determined that she won't preach to her audience - even though she's made that mistake in the past.

The podcaster said: "I'm never trying to teach anyone anything. I'm more trying to learn with the audience and maybe be a thought-starter for people.

"At times, too, I think I've sort of lost myself and the episode has maybe even come off as me trying to teach. But that was more of a miss."
