Lily Allen celebrated her 40th birthday "under some tricky circumstances"

The pop star reached the milestone on on May 2 and revealed she gathered her family and friends - including her 'Miss Me?' podcast co-host Miquita Oliver and fashion designers Kim Jones and Katie Hillier - for an intimate celebration over the weekend (03-04.May25)

Lily shared a picture of her birthday cake on Instagram and wrote: "Thank you to all my beauty friends and family who showed up for me and made my birthday a special one under some tricky circumstances. Love you all."

The singer's godmother Rose Boyt - daughter of artist Lucien Freud - also shared a post on Instagram about the party and paid tribute to the 'Smile' star.

Rose wrote: "The birthday of my god-daughter @lilyallen. What a woman.

"Obviously at her christening when I stood there in the church with my fingers crossed behind my back and swore that I loved God and nobody smote me with their sword or whatever I had no idea that that small beloved child was going to turn into such a marvel.

"Still as beloved, still as beautiful, still as creative, imaginative and bold. So happy to be on her team."

Lily - who split from her husband David Harbour last year - is believed to have marked her actual birthday by heading to a restaurant in London for lunch with friends.

On the big day, she shared pictures of herself on Instagram and wrote: "Happy birthday to me."

Lily and David parted ways in 2024 after five years together and the 'Stranger Things' star recently commented about the split for the first time.

When asked about the split by GQ magazine, he simply said: "Oh boy."

The 'Thunderbolts' star did not go into any more detail about his personal life but when asked about his general wellbeing, admitted that things can be "hard" but he is trying to embrace this time in his life as a a "period of growth".

He said: "You know, it's not that things ending aren't hard, but it's just that I'm choosing to make it a period of growth.

"And I feel like having the opportunity to be busy and work is really good, and also to delve into this deeper spiritual quest, which I've been on since the mystic saints days ... "

David added he is "good" and is just learning how to "float" at this point in his life. He went on to say: "I think I'm good. It's less of a kind of triumphant good, more of a like...

"I'm learning how to swim in this - whatever it is. Learning how to float. Learning how to make it not about me."
