Jessie J has compared cancer surgery to an episode of Black Mirror

The 37-year-old pop star - real name Jessica Cornish - revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and she subsequently underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

Now the singer has opened up about going under the knife admitting she hates being "put under" with a general anaesthetic because it feels life she's in an episode of the hit Netflix sci-fi show.

Jessie told the Guardian newspaper: "I hate being put under. They walk you down. You know when you have emergency surgery you roll down in a bed, but this time I just strolled down with a gown on and my bum hanging out. You feel like you're in an episode of Black Mirror ...

"Cancer sucks, man, but you know what? Thank f*** I found it early. I had the mastectomy four months ago and my right breast now looks like a grapefruit under a tight bedsheet ...

"[They are now] different sizes. They didn't do an implant as small as my original. How rude! I thought, no need to bully me, I'm already having a rough time.

"So rude! It's funny because I said I'd never get my boobs done because I've got OCD, and I know they'd never be perfect. Cancer ruined that plan."

Jessie went on to admit she believes her life has been peppered by health issues which always seem to happen when she's experiencing success.

She explained: "Honestly, I feel life goes: 'You having a good time? Sit down.' Ever since I was a child, it has always gone alongside moments of success for me; something severe or obscure has happened to my health."

Jessie was working in London's West End as a child star when she was diagnosed with a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and she later suffered a minor stoke at the age of 17 shortly after landing a record deal as part of a girl group.

She also damaged her larynx in a 2020 car crash as she was poised to release new music and the accident left her unable to sing for a year.

Jessie added of her health problems: "I've clearly got an addiction to being diagnosed with things. So maybe the cancer is part of that ...

"My mum and dad always did such a great job of not making that the definitive thing in my life, and not making me define my character by my worst days.

"That was amazing and has carried through to now."
