'The Queen's Gambit' honoured with Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television accolade at the Golden Globes

The Netflix drama - which tells the story of chess prodigy Beth Harmon - beat out competition from 'Normal People', 'Small Axe', 'The Undoing' and 'Unorthodox' to take the coveted honour

Shortly before the show was announced as the winner, it's lead star Anya Taylor-Joy won her first major honour, picking up the Best Performance by an Actress, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television accolade.

The 24-year-old beauty said: "I would love to thank Netflix… for letting us make the show we wanted to make...

"“Scott Frank, my god, I love you. Thank you for letting me be part of the journey and thank you for trusting me with Beth.

"It's obviously wonderful that everyone has seen the show but I would do this project again and again and again, I learned so much. Thank you to the audience who watched it and supported the characters, it meant so much."

Anya took the award ahead of Cate Blanchett ('Mrs. America'), Daisy Edgar-Jones ('Normal People'), Shira Haas ('Unorthodox'), and Nicole Kidman ('The Undoing').

Earlier in the evening, the Best Performance by an Actor, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, was awarded to John Boyega for 'Small Axe'.

He said in his speech: "I'm so shocked.

"I thought it was gonna be one of them nights where ... you go to your bed and just chill."

He then lifted his legs to show off his loungewear.

He quipped: "I've got Balenciagas, guys. I've got trackie bottoms on my bottoms that I'm comfortable [in], but this is exciting...

"I'm absolutely shocked. I don't even know what to say."
