Ashton Kutcher was fired by Tom Ford for being "too fat" for Gucci

The Hollywood actor started his career as a model and walked the runways for design houses across Europe before he made the switch to TV after landing a role in That '70s Show - and he's now revealed he had the chance to model for Gucci when Ford was in charge but he was let go for being overweight.

Kutcher told Entertainment Tonight: "I showed up, I flew to Italy for the [Gucci] runway show, and [Ford] he puts me in, like, a pink Speedo ...

"[Ford] was like: 'He's too fat.' And then I got fired."

Kutcher revealed he has since spoken to Ford about the incident and insisted they are both able to see the funny side.

He said: " I laugh with him about it now, and he's like: 'You were too fat.' I was like: 'Dude, I was 178 lbs! Like, what are you talking about?'"

The actor went on to add: "He had a specific thing that he wanted, that he wanted to see, in his eye was the right thing. It didn't mean I was less, but it just meant that I wasn't that for him for that moment."

Kutcher - who started modelling as a teenager - went on to add that "some of the most beautiful people in the world" experience are battling insecurities over their appearance, adding: "What I realized really quickly was that everybody had an insecurity. Everybody.

"If you look in the mirror long enough, you'll find something you don't like, or that you think could be better, or that you think could be different."

Kutcher previously admitted he's often won and lost roles over the way he looks.

Speaking to fans at a Comic Con panel in New York in October, he explained: "I think every role you get, part of it is what you look like, right?

"It's a very big part of what you're imbuing as the character. And so, there are roles that I've gotten because of the way I look and there are roles that I haven't gotten because of the way I look.

"Sometimes it's frustrating ... You're trying to tell a story with pictures, and the pictures need to create a feeling for the audience."
