Organisers of this year's Karaka sales are hoping to hit $85-million this week

Organisers of this year's Karaka sales are hoping to hit $85-million this week

The Karaka sales near Auckland began today - with more than 1,200 yearlings up for grabs.

The sales began at 11 o'clock this morning and go through until Friday.

New Zealand Bloodstock managing director, Andrew Seabrook says Australians are expected to spend up to $30-million on horses this week.

He says they're generally not looking for sprinters, but strong-boned, middle-distance horses.
