An appeal for all motorists to do their bit to make sure everyone gets home safely

An appeal for all motorists to do their bit to make sure everyone gets home safely

National Road Policing Manager Acting Superintendent Gini Welch says too many people have already lost their lives or been seriously injured on the roads this weekend.

The Labour Weekend road toll sits at six so far - and ends at 6am tomorrow.

Waka Kotahi is encouraging motorists to plan ahead and give themselves plenty of time to get home.

Spokesperson Andy Knackstedt says people can head online to their journey planner for some help.

He says it includes specific information for holiday journeys, which crunches the data from previous long weekends and predicts when the roads will be busiest.
