Smart sensors will help councils decide whether more electric vehicle charging stations are needed

Smart sensors will help councils decide whether more electric vehicle charging stations are needed

The technology is being linked by Christchurch's City Council to a SmartView website - to see whether drivers are using them as cheap parking.

Programme head Michael Healy says drivers can also use the tech to see if charging points are free.

He says the data will also show if more are needed.

He says EV ownership will only go up - with vehicles once limited to 200 kilometres now doing 600 on a full charge.
