Commerce Commission analysis found fuel companies are costing motorists 15 million dollars a year by delaying drops in petrol prices

Commerce Commission analysis found fuel companies are costing motorists 15 million dollars a year by delaying drops in petrol prices

The report found retailers are quick to put prices up in response to increased costs but slow to bring them down again.

AA principal policy advisor Terry Collins says for petrol companies this is a long term game.

He says due to competition sometimes they can afford to cut prices and others -- they have to make up for it.
