A second ice skating related death in the space of a fortnight

A second ice skating related death in the space of a fortnight

A person was airlifted in a critical condition from Mid Canterbury's Staveley Ice Rink on Friday afternoon.

Police say they attended a sudden death at Christchurch Hospital yesterday in relation to the incident.

A spokesman for the Staveley Hall Society, which manages the ice rink, says the incident occurred during a private function.

It comes after 13-year-old Kymani Hiley Hetaraka fell while on a school trip at Christchurch's Alpine Ice Sports Centre late last month.

    She later died in hospital.
