Supercars driver Matt Payne's championship hopes have been ended by a collision during the second Sandown 500 race in Melbourne

Supercars driver Matt Payne's championship hopes have been ended by a collision during the second Sandown 500 race in Melbourne

He and fellow finals hopeful Cam Waters clashed with 31 laps to go, costing them a shot at one of four finals berths for the Adelaide decider this month.

Payne was provisionally holding a spot at the time of the incident, on Sky Sport.

Broc Feeney took the chequered flag to secure a top-four spot, alongside Chaz Mostert, Will Brown and Payne's teammate Kai Allen.
