A man's in custody after a chase with Police in Invercargill tonight

He fled from officers in his vehicle at about 5pm, when approached.

Police gave chase, but abandoned it when the fleeing vehicle's driving deteriorated.

At about 6pm, it ran over spikes on State Highway 6, south of Winton and then crashed into a ditch on McKenzie Road.

Police say the man received minor injuries and two others in his car were uninjured.

They say charges are being considered.

State Highway 6 has since reopened since the crash.
