Major concerns about speeding motorists near roadworks

Major concerns about speeding motorists near roadworks

Roadwork contractors in the Bay of Plenty say they've noticed a worrying increase in the speeds of passing motorists.

That's despite three roadworkers being killed in a truck crash near Whakatane in 2019.

AA Road Safety spokesperson Dylan Thomsen says in his experience, it's rare to see people get down to the 30 kilometre an hour speed.

He says often fresh surfaces can have a lot of loose stones, which can flick up into people's faces if cars go through at high speeds.
