A four-vehicle crash is bringing weekend traffic to a halt in Auckland's central city - with one man believed to have been trapped

Emergency services were called to the Nelson Street collision just before 3pm.

Images suggest an SUV has been tipped on its side - with fire crews gaining access through a smashed front windshield.

One other car has a dent in the back of it, and a third also appears to have been hit - while its understood a fourth car has left.

Police are collecting witness statements from the sizeable group crowding around the scene - one telling our newsroom an 'old guy' was in the tipped vehicle.
