Wild weather's on the way for some parts of the South Island

Wild weather's on the way for some parts of the South Island

A front's set to come from the southwest this afternoon, and will move slowly north later today and tomorrow.

It's expected to bring a lot of rain to the West Coast and Alps, as well as strong winds.

A heavy rain warning's been issued for Fiordland, Westland, the Otago Headwaters, and the Canterbury Headwaters.

MetService Meteorologist Tahlia Crabtree says the outlook for those in the eastern part of the South Island is another story.

She says Christchurch is set for a high of 28 degrees and 29 for Kaikoura.
