Silverstream residents near a fire in Upper Hutt are being urged to conserve water while the reservoir fills back up

The two-hectare bushfire in the suburb of Trentham, which firefighters were called to at about 3 this afternoon, is now under control.

Wellington Water has allowed firefighters access to the reservoir for firefighting use.

Helicopters will continue working at the scene until 8.30 tonight.

Ground crews will remain on scene, but plan to scale crew numbers back around 9.30pm.
