Authorities have now established there is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following an earthquake in the Kermadec Islands Region

Authorities have now established there is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following an earthquake in the Kermadec Islands Region

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake happened at 3:46 this afternoon around 800 kilometres northeast of New Zealand's North Island.

Earlier in the hour, those in coastal regions were advised to stay out of the water and away from beaches and shores.

That no loner applies - as there is no threat.
