    Homes are being evacuated as a vegetation fire in Northland continues to grow


    A blaze broke out at Waipoua River - in the Kaipara region - at about 2pm.

    The fire's grown to 70 hectares - with multiple helicopters and ground crews responding.

    Police are assisting with evacuating homes in the Waipoua River Road area - structures are at risk but none have been lost.

    Fire and Emergency will continue attacking the fire until nightfall - and will remain on site for observation overnight.
