A major step forward for development of a new rail-road freight hub near Palmerston North

A major step forward for development of a new rail-road freight hub near Palmerston North

Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones unveiled the plan for the hub today.

It will combine a container terminal and warehousing with KiwiRail's train operations and maintenance facilities.

KiwiRail Group Chief Executive Greg Miller says the hub will improve efficiency and save costs, by bringing road and rail freight together.

The company will now identify a preferred site, and consult with the public in the new year.
