Work to upgrade Rangiora's police station to earthquake standards is expected to take several more months

Officers in the Canterbury town have been working out of a temporary premises since September, so seismic remedial work could be carried out.

The work was expected to take only a few weeks.

Today a public counter has been opened at the temporary King Street building.

Canterbury Rural Area Prevention Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottam is thanking the public for their patience - and says Police look forward to relocating back to High Street once the earthquake strengthening is complete.
