Christchurch east residents dealing with the Bromley pong, could smell some relief soon

Christchurch east residents dealing with the Bromley pong, could smell some relief soon

People on the east side of the city have been putting up with a strong stench after the wastewater treatment plant caught fire in November.

Specialised submersible pumps are set to arrive at the facility today, to help reduce the smell coming from the oxidation ponds.

City Council Head of Three Waters Helen Beaumont says it won't be an instant fix.

She says it will take three to six weeks for the wastewater in those ponds to improve.
