An Auckland couple have been left furious at the Auckland Council, after a tree smashed into their house and car during severe winds last night

Real estate agent Simone Robertson and her husband, say they had been pleading to have the eucalyptus tree near their Meadowbank home removed for more than two years.

They say the tree, which borders Rutherford Reserve, was on an unstable bog and feared it would collapse onto their home.

Auckland Council's Taryn Crewe says they decided to remove the tree last week, and have apologised to the Robertsons.
