A ridge of high pressure's meeting a northwesterly wind, moving up from the Tasman Sea - drawing out hot, muggy temperatures.
MetService Metereologist Lewis Ferris says the warm northwesterly flow will come with rain, particularly on the South Island's west coast..
He says Hawke's Bay is expected to top the country for the hottest temperatures.
Ferris says current forecasts have some areas maybe hitting the 30 degree mark - but down in Canterbury, we'll be seeing high-20's.
