But it doesn't seem to be hindering Kiwi athletes.
At the World Cup regatta in Poland last weekend New Zealand took two golds - with Matt Dunham winning the men's lightweight single sculls, and Matt Macdonald and Tom Mackintosh taking out the men's pair.
Rowing NZ general manager of performance Judith Hamilton says the athletes are coping well.
