    State of Origin representative Valentine Holmes is closing in on a deal to join the Dragons as a replacement for the outgoing Zac Lomax in rugby league's NRL

    The Cowboys have granted Holmes permission to negotiate with rivals for next year as he's set to be released from the final year of his lucrative deal.

    Reports suggest he's yet to officially sign with St. George Illawarra, but the club's confident a deal will be finalised.
