A Wayne Bennett halftime sermon has jolted Queensland to a 18-14 victory in league's opening State of Origin match against New South Wales in Adelaide

Bennett told broadcaster Channel Nine his job was to convince nervous Maroons players, including eight debutants, that State of Origin was just another game.

Queensland were 10-nil down at the break, but recovered to win courtesy of a 14-minute three-try blitz.
