A short-term covid-19 fix may lead to a long-term realignment for winter and summer sports

A short-term covid-19 fix may lead to a long-term realignment for winter and summer sports

Winter codes in Canterbury are working to have a later finish to their seasons, with summer sports set to finish later in the new year.

Mainland Football boss Julian Bowden says the current lockdown and subsequent rejig is steering them towards some commonsense decisions.

He's cited cricket and school sports as examples.

Basketball New Zealand has confirmed the current Tall Blacks coaching staff will have their contracts extended by a year to cover the postponed Tokyo Olympics programme.

It will also include the planned November 2020 and February 2021 Asia Cup qualifying windows.

Coach Pero Cameron and assistant coaches Ross McMains, Mike Fitchett and Judd Flavell were on contracts taking them through until after the 2020 Games.

The inaugural Piha Pro World Challenger Series surfing event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus, with a view to pushing its debut out a year.

The competition was initially postponed in March.
