A knight rider will participate in IndyCars next season

Scott Dixon is promising to stay in a humble lane after his appointment to the ranks of sir - his career features six overall titles on the circuit and an Indy 500 crown in 2008.

Veteran bowler Val Smith has been made an officer, as have former Olympic running medallists Lorraine Moller and Rod Dixon, the latter at Munich in 1972 before giving back to the sport with his Kids Marathon programme.

Dixon, now 75, says he was offered an MBE after that feat.

Past Black Cap Martin Guptill and past All Black Eroni Clarke have been appointed members.
