Former All Blacks wing Grant Batty is being remembered for his bravery on the rugby field and ability to energise a crowd

It's been confirmed he passed away yesterday in Australia, aged 74.

Batty played 56 games for the All Blacks including 15 tests - and was described as a 'rugby playing freak'.

NZR Acting Chief Executive Steve Lancaster says Grant was a highly skilled player of his era, with explosive speed and a dangerous ability to find space.

His final act in the black jersey was a memorable intercept try against the British Lions in 1977 at Athletic Park
