All Blacks coach Scott Robertson sought the counsel of Wayne Smith before making his first selections official

Smith has the title of 'performance coach' in the new All Blacks management set-up although is largely expected to be hands off.

Robertson says for him, his selection was about picking the best players rather than tapping into his knowledge of the Crusaders.



The first test against England is a week today.
