Sarah Michelle Gellar and her daughter help each other out with their beauty regimes

The 48-year-old actress has opened up about how she and her 16-year-old daughter Charlotte - who she had with husband Freddie Prinze Jr - have bonded over beauty tips.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, she said: "My daughter and I will do facials on each other. She teaches me about tools...

"You can take your products and really roll them into the skin. It's something that I didn't know about when I was younger, but it totally makes sense.

"It's one thing for me to use my hands, but with tools, you can really push these creams into your skin much deeper. It's great."

Sarah has already been "levelling up" her skincare routine, after teaming up with Olay earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star has made sure Charlotte understands the importance of appreciating your natural beauty.

She explained: "She's in that age now where they're not into filters, they're into real. She likes cameras, which I really appreciate, because she's looking at a more honest view of who she is. And I think that's the most important.

"But I remind her [days like] today, where I had professional hair and makeup helping me get ready for my job, are not real life.

"And I don't look like this every day. I look like me. And it's important that there's a delineation between those two."

Sarah herself has learned to embrace aa "less-is-more" approach to skincare.

She said: "Being able to know that you can make a difference in your skin without doing something so drastic, to me, is really important.

"I love the idea of dramatic results without drastic measures. And the idea of, 'I don't want to cut up my face if I don't have to."
