A 25-year-old man's due to appear in the Hastings District Court today - connected to one of two gang-related incidents over the weekend

There was a drive by shooting in Ruatoria, north of Gisborne, and a mass brawl outside a restaurant in Napier's Taradale.

The man's been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in relation to the Taradale firearms event.

Investigations are ongoing, and Police are working through CCTV footage to understand the circumstances.

Ten extra officers are on the beat in both locations as part of an increased Police presence.
