US Republican John Rose upstaged by mischievous son as he denounced Donald Trump convictions

A mischievous six-year-old has gone viral for upstaging his congressman dad in the US House of Representatives.

A mischievous six-year-old has gone viral for upstaging his congressman dad in the US House of Representatives.

Tennessee Republican John Rose was on the House floor on Monday, local time, talking about former president Donald Trump's criminal convictions.

Last week, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

But as Mr Rose addressed the House, his son Guy noticed he was being filmed and stole the limelight.

The cheeky youngster started to smile at the camera before inching closer to his dad and making funny faces.

Oblivious Mr Rose continued to deliver his speech as guy stuck his tongue out and rolled his eyes, going on to make shapes with his hands.

The five-minute clip continues to show playful Guy waving at the camera and smiling.

He eventually moved out of view as he grew bored and played with a squish toy.

Many social media users were left amused by Guy's antics, as was Mr Rose.

The father-of-two later shared the clip on social media platform X and said: "This is what I get for telling my son Guy to smile at the camera for his little brother."

Guy was at the House to "job shadow" his father after recently finishing kindergarten.

"This is his first chance to 'job shadow' his dad as the two spend the week together.

"The Congressman's youngest son, Sam (3), and his wife, Chelsea, are back in Tennessee as she works full-time, so the Congressman is giving a little relief as both boys are home this summer," Blake Stevens, Mr Rose's press secretary told Newsweek.

The initial video, posted by broadcaster CSPAN, has gone viral, with over 600,000 people viewing the clip so far.

And Guy has quickly been turned into a meme, with users saying they couldn't stop watching the footage.

During Mr Rose's speech, he criticised Trump's conviction in the hush money cash.

"Using the justice system to engage in a politically driven prosecution and now conviction of a major political party nominee running for president, especially on the charges brought against Donald Trump, should gravely concern every member of this body, as well as every American across our country," he said.

"Regardless of one's opinion of the current Republican nominee, we'd be well served to remember the long and cherished position we have in this country of settling our political differences at the ballot box."
