Cautious optimism from Aoraki Mount Cook search and rescuers, that the hunt for the three climbers will resume today

Cautious optimism from Aoraki Mount Cook search and rescuers, that the hunt for the three climbers will resume today

The trio missed their pre-arranged transport on Monday -- with wind and rain hampering rescue efforts since.

Items believed to be from the party, including a jacket and ice axe, have been found.

Aoraki Area Commander Vicki Walker says Mount Cook is an unforgiving alpine environment, currently experiencing severe weather.

She says search and rescue personnel are experienced -- but are at the mercy of the limited weather windows.
