Kai Schreiber wants to be a supermodel

The 16-year-old fashionista - who is the youngest child of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber - always longed for a career on the catwalk, which she believes was partly a result of her struggles with her gender identity and desire to be a "beautiful, glamorous woman"

Asked what she wants to do when she is older, Kai told Interview magazine: "I want to be a supermodel. Period. I've been practicing my walks in the kitchen for years; my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film.

"Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it. I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn [Monroe].(sic)"

Kai - who made her runway debut for Valentino earlier this year - is thankful for the "strong community" of trans people in the fashion world.

She said: "As a young trans girl, I'm always going to look up to the older generation of transgender people, especially in fashion. People like Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, Colin Jones, and so many more. It's so great that there's a strong community of us in the fashion world; it's really a doll takeover. It's important to all of us to have a sense of community, especially when we're under such hostile attack."

And the teenager is unsure if she wants to go to college or focus on her fashion dreams.

Asked where she wants to study, she said: "I don't know. Like I said, school has never really been my strong suit. I see myself in the fashion industry. It's always been my dream. I'm not sure if college is for me, but we'll see when it rolls around. I like to go with the flow."

Kai's father Liev recently told how he shared a "profound moment" with his child when she asked her family to use feminine pronouns.

He told Variety: "Kai was always who Kai is. But I suppose the most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns. To be honest with you, it didn't feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long."

Schreiber added of his daughter: "Kai is such a fighter. It's important that she goes, 'Hey, I am trans,' and, 'Look at me'."
