Taylor Swift has donated $1 million to the American Heart Association

The Fate of Ophelia has made a generous personal contribution in honour of her dad Scott Swift, who underwent a quintuple bypass surgery earlier this year, and the money will help to "advance ongoing scientific research, stronger prevention and treatment efforts, and expanded access to life saving care for every community".

Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association is quoted by People magazine as saying: "Taylor Swift's remarkable generosity will create lasting change far beyond its financial value.

"Her family's experience with cardiovascular disease is all too common, affecting nearly half of American adults.

"Her commitment to supporting her father will make so many others aware of the need to take their own heart health seriously, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve controllable risk factors-ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives."

The ex ecutive noted the 36-year-old pop star has "long been associated with the symbol of heart hands."

She added: "At the American Heart Association, we proudly use that same gesture to honor all who have been affected-our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, spouses and so many others.

"My hope is that together we can raise our collective heart hands and drive meaningful change against this disease, shaping a healthier future for generations to come."

The donation was revealed shortly after it also emerged that Taylor had set the same sum to Feeding America, a non-profit network of 200 food banks that is fighting hunger across the United States.

The charity revealed that Taylor had made the gesture with an Instagram post on Tuesday (23.12.25) that was captioned: "We're grateful to @taylorswift for standing with families facing hunger.

"Her generosity reminds us what's possible when we come together to help ensure full tables this holiday season and beyond."

Feeding America's CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot also praised the Shake It Off hitmaker for her generosity.

Her statement read: "We are incredibly grateful for Taylor Swift's $1 million gift to Feeding America.

"This holiday season, her continued support is a powerful reminder of what's possible when we unite to end hunger.

"When we join together alongside people facing hunger, we can make sure families have a full table this holiday season and beyond."

Scott underwent surgery in June and Taylor previously revealed she had moved in with him after his surgery.

Speaking on her fiance Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast, she said: "I'm like, this dude built play sets and swing sets and cribs for me. I'm building his shower chair and his walker, and his bed that goes like this.

"It's just surreal, man. You can't really walk on your own. We had a little harness for my dad, just like walking dad on his harness.

"And he was like the loveliest patient ever. He just kept saying thank you over and over again."

Scott kept his sense of humour and was cracking jokes in his hospital bed after waking up from his op.

His famous daughter recounted: "He wakes up from surgery, and it's my mom, my brother [Austin], and me and his best friend. He did like a comedy act, a comedy set for 15 minutes. He was the funniest he's ever been, and he's usually really funny.

"And it was kind of wild because it was like, very parent-child reversal in a lot of ways. My brother and my mom and I were each taking shifts in the ICU and staying with him 24/7."
