The MidCentral District Health Board's been censured after a woman visited the Emergency Department three times in 10 days

The MidCentral District Health Board's been censured after a woman visited the Emergency Department three times in 10 days

Health and Disability Commissioner Anthony Hill released a report finding the woman's care was suboptimal during the May and June 2018 visits.

The report shows clinical staff failed to examine the woman appropriately.

She also faced significant delays - of up to five and a half hours - to see a doctor, resulting in a delayed diagnosis of a stroke.

Hill recommended the DHB review its Emergency Department wait times, educate staff on appropriate triaging for a suspected stroke, and to apologise to the woman.
